Le Mort Du Grand-Pere, ou, Le Someil du Juste
This film by Jaqueline Veuve slowly, carefully examines the patriarch of a Swiss watchmaking family after his death. The whole family put in long hours in their factory, cutting and polishing jewels to make impulse-pins for watches, and “Le Someil du Juste” combines detailed process footage and interviews with lovely, white-haired Swiss ladies, the family’s daughters.
It’s a sociological look at the protestant work ethic, peppered with statements like:
“Here was a world of jewels, jewels that fascinated us”
